OLDHAM COUNTY, Ky. (WDRB) -- The countdown is on for the grand opening of a brand new drive-in movie theater in Oldham County.
Once it's complete, customers of the Sauerback Family Drive-In will come up a long driveway from Commerce Parkway, where they'll find a movie screen with space for 450 cars.
"Site work is underway. We're currently installing all of our utilities: gas, sewer, water, electric will all be going in this month," said Stephen Sauerback, owner of the drive-in theater. "Screen is being fabricated off site. So they'll bring that in later this month to stand it up in position."
There will be a building on-site with bathrooms and concession stand.
"We'll have all the snacks you're looking for," Sauerback said. "Pretzels, nachos, ice cream ... we have a donut machine. We'll make fresh donuts on site. That'll be a popular item."
The project, had a $2 million price tag, and it's on budget.
And when it comes to the movie choices, they'll be keeping it family friendly: anything PG-13 and below.
"Currently, we're opening with one screen this year ... to add a second screen in the future." Sauerback said. "So at this point, we're always going to give priority to family friendly films."
Before Sauerback can open, he needs help. The drive-in is looking to hire around 20 people to handle everything from ticket sales to the concession stand.
Once everything is up and running, showtimes will start each night at dusk. Adult tickets are $11, children can get in for $6, and those prices are for double features.
There are also discounted family and "date night" packages for sale right now online.
The plan is to be open by the middle of July. And if you want to apply for a job, click here.
