LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Monoclonal antibody treatments are helping COVID-19 patients in Kentucky, and Norton Healthcare is one of the hospital systems giving the infusions.

Monoclonal antibody treatments are meant to keep people with COVID-19 out of the hospital and prevent people from dying. Doctors said people keep asking what the difference is between getting the vaccine and the monoclonal antibody treatments.

"The vaccine is designed to try to prevent you from getting symptomatically infected and to prevent bad outcomes, whereas the antibody for most people — they've been exposed or infected and they're coming in — so they're already having symptoms."

The treatments became in-demand during the Delta variant surge, and now, the federal government decides how many treatments each state is getting.
