Officials release name of robbery suspect shot and killed Tuesday after exchanging gunfire with LMPD officers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials have released the name of a robbery suspect who died after he was shot by Louisville Metro Police officers on Tuesday.

The man was 21-year-old Demonjhea Jordan, of Jeffersonville, according to Deputy Coroner Wayne Pryse.

The shooting happened at 29th and St. Xavier Streets in the Portland neighborhood.

LMPD Chief Steve Conrad said officers responded to reports of a robbery at a Metro PCS store at 26th and Market Streets just after noon on Tuesday. The suspect left on foot.

Conrad says officers from the First Division spotted a man matching Jordan's description near 28th and Saint Xavier Streets a short time later. The officers and Jordan exchanged gunfire, and Jordan was hit.

He was taken to University Hospital where he died. No officers were injured.

According to Conrad, LMPD's Public Integrity Unit will take over the investigation, as the officers were placed on administrative reassignment.

Police say body cam footage and information about the officers involved will be released at a planned news conference on Wednesday.
