City leaders hope programs will help curb violence during long, hot summer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say one person has died after a two-car collision at the intersection of Fern Valley Road and Fern Grade Road Thursday evening.

It happened around 6:15 p.m. in front of Ford's Louisville Assembly Plant and UPS.

LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley says the preliminary investigation revealed the female driver of a vehicle heading southbound on Fern Grade Road was hit by another vehicle, going westbound on Fern Valley, at the intersection.

MetroSafe says the female driver was ejected from her vehicle. That woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two people in the other vehicle weren't hurt.

Police say traffic in that area is expected to be shut down for about two hours.
