Opening statements begin in former suburban Chicago police officer's murder-for-hire trial

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Opening statements begin in the murder-for-hire trial of a former suburban Chicago police officer.

Drew Peterson is accused of plotting to kill the state's attorney who prosecuted Peterson in his third wife's death.

Lawyers say Peterson offered a fellow inmate $10,000 to commit the murder.

He faces a sentence of up to 60 years.

He's currently serving 38 years for Savio's death.

Peterson's fourth wife, Stacey Peterson, has been missing since 2007.
