LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Pegasus takes the spotlight for the 2019 Kentucky Derby Festival Poster.
The work titled "Parade" is by Louisville artist Chimel Ford. It was unveiled Monday with a gray Pegasus soaring on a vibrantly colored background and a marching band silhouette at the bottom.
In a release, KDF says Ford is a Louisville artist and graduate of PRP High School, who is known for painting nostalgic pop art including iconic people, food and restaurant logos. “I hope I inspire someone to do something they never thought was possible,” said Ford, who has autism. The festival poster goes on sale to the public on March 14. But Festival Fans can pre-order the 2019 Limited Edition or Official poster at a 20 percent discount and FREE shipping from February 11 - February 17. The Limited Edition Signed and Numbered posters normally retail for $75 and the Official poster normally retails for $30. They can be pre-ordered online, CLICK HERE.
Many people collect Kentucky Derby Festival posters, which began in 1981 with Peter Max as the artist. Since then many local and regional artists have been chosen to create the poster, which also is used on festival merchandise.
