ELMWOOD PARK, NJ. (WDRB) -- A six-year-old boy was attacked by a raccoon while walking home from school.
The child was with his mother when the animal jumped on his back and started biting him and scratching his face.
A neighbor heard the screams for help. He grabbed a painting pole and started hitting the raccoon.
"All I was was a man with a stick hitting, hitting and I was like, 'oh my God', a man is hitting a woman and a kid," Diana Walls, who witnessed the bizarre scene, said. "Then, when I noticed he was actually saving the kid from the raccoon I was so very proud of him."
The boy is being treated for cuts on his face.
Animal control is testing the raccoon for rabies.
