LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Simmons College opens two new residence halls that are transforming a block in West Louisville.
The college dedicated the buildings in honor of two local community leaders at a dedication ceremony Saturday morning.
The new residence halls are now named after Reverend Johnnie Clark and Reverend Charles Elliott.

The pastors are civic advocates and longtime supporters of higher education.

School leaders say the rehabilitated student housing will set an example for the rest of the community.
"These houses were in total dilapidation," Simmons College President Dr. Kevin Cosby said. "They have been rehabbed. This street is a transformed street that will be a model in one of the poorest zip codes in our city, of what is possible if we start with one block and go block, by block, by block and take an interest."
The new halls are located at the corner of 15th Street and Garland Avenue in West Louisville.
