LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some very special kids had a chance to meet Santa on Sunday in an environment created especially for them.
The Green Tree Mall hosted its annual meet and greet for children with autism and special needs.
The music and lights were turned down to create a calming environment for children who may get nervous in loud, busy areas.
Organizers say it's way for every child to enjoy the Christmas season in a safe way, while educating others at the same time.
"Sometimes children with special needs, sometimes they don't get the opportunity to see Santa during regular hours due to the loud noise and the crowds. This way there (are) no crowds, you have a time slot," Green Tree Mall Spokesperson Kiara Peterson said.
Autism Speaks and Little Star ABA Therapy also partnered for the event. The mall hosts a similar event in the spring, when the Easter Bunny makes an appearance
