LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Temperatures in the 90s didn't keep hundreds of kids from competing in a mini-triathlon this weekend.
Saturday was the third annual COOL Kids Triathlon presented by Norton Children's Orthopedics.
There was swimming, biking and running, just like a grown-up triathlon, but the distances were much shorter.
Kids started at the Mary Meagher Aquatic Center, took some bike loops around Reservoir Avenue and ended with running around the reservoir itself.
The focus of the event was on being active, not on timing.
"This is an event we do to help build fitness. Hopefully these kids have put in some time in training, some time in the pool, and we want them out here to have fun and just have a good time today," event organizer Jennifer Brey said.
The USA-Triathlon sanctioned event is held in conjunction with Southern Racing and Louisville Metro Parks.
