UPDATE: Police arrest suspect in fatal Cannelton, Indiana shooting

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana State Police were searching for a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that happened in Cannelton, but said just after 5 p.m. he had been arrested.

Indiana State Police and the Perry County Sheriff's Department responded to a fatal shooting at a home on Bell Hollow Road in Cannelton around 11:50 a.m. Monday.

Police say Phillip Chase, 47, was the victim in the shooting.

Authorities say a preliminary investigation revealed that 47-year-old Stacy Matheny, of Cannelton, drove to the home and confronted Chase outside the residence.

Police say following a brief verbal altercation, Matheny allegedly pulled out a handgun and fatally shot the man. Chase was pronounced dead at the scene by the Perry County Coroner.

Officials say Chase was visiting the person who lives at the home where the shooting took place.

Investigators say Matheny left the scene driving a green 2001 Ford Explorer.
