LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man was arrested Friday after authorities executed a search warrant on his home, according to a news release from the Kentucky State Police. According to Jefferson County Public Schools, that man is an employee at Westport Middle School and has been since 2008.
JCPS spokesperson Mandy Simpson says Troy Martin has been employed with Westport Middle since he began working for the district in 2008.
The school sent a letter home notifying parents Friday afternoon. The letter is re-printed at the bottom of the story. (Update: 5:45 p.m.)
It happened at the home of 44-year-old Troy Martin Martin on Redding Road, near the corner of Breckenridge Lane and Bardstown Road.
According to the news release, detectives with the KSP Electronic Crime Branch launched the investigation after observing Martin sharing images of child exploitation online.
Police say troopers from the Elizabethtown KSP post and Louisville Metro Police officers assisted the KSP Electronic Crime Branch with the search of Martin's home. Equipment allegedly used to distribute child pornography was seized and taken to the Kentucky State Police Forensic Laboratory for review.
Police say 44-year-old Troy M. Martin was charged with two counts of distribution of matter portraying the sexual performance of a minor and 20 counts of possession of matter portraying the sexual performance of a minor.
Letter to Westport Middle School parents:
This letter is to inform you about a situation that affects our school community. I want to make sure that you have accurate information and dispel any rumors you may have heard about the incident.
I became aware this afternoon that one of our night custodians, Troy Martin, was arrested by Kentucky State Police. He is charged with possession and distribution of child pornography. The alleged crimes did not occur during school hours or on school grounds.
Please understand that, because this is an ongoing criminal investigation and personnel matter, this is the only information I am permitted to release.
We understand that these allegations are unsettling to the Westport Middle School community. Please know that this employee will not be allowed back in our school building while this is investigated.
The safety and well-being of your child is most important to us. Our goal is for all students to learn at high levels and be successful in a safe, nurturing school environment. We will continue to take every necessary step to ensure the safety of your child.
