LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Investigators say a 1-year-old boy was found naked and laying in the dirt hours after he went missing in an Oregon forest area.
According to social media posts by the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, in Deschutes County, Oregon, the incident began May 10 just after 6 a.m. in a wooded area south of Bend, Oregon.
Investigators say a man had come out of the woods and was asking for law enforcement. That man was 25-year-old Brandon M. Blouin. Police say Blouin told them that he, an 18-year-old woman and their 1-year-old son, Bradley Michael Thomas, had been staying in a vehicle in the forested area nearby. At some point, the woman walked away from the vehicle and left Bradley in Blouin's care -- but Blouin eventually left him alone in the woods to look for the woman.
"Blouin is believed to have been under the influence of a controlled substance when he made the choice to set him down and walk away," police say in a Facebook post about the incident.
The sheriff's office quickly began a search for Bradley, involving detectives, patrol personnel, personnel on horseback, drones and helicopters with thermal image sensors.
Just after 12 p.m., the boy was found "naked and laying in the dirt" about one mile from the family's vehicle. He was taken to a hospital in Bend, Oregon, for treatment.
Blouin was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal mistreatment, second-degree child neglect, endangering the welfare of a minor and third-degree assault.
"The assault charge stems from an injury that we believe Bradley suffered while in Blouin's care," the Facebook post states.
