52-year-old woman identified as person found in garbage can in west Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 52-year-old woman has been identified as person found in a trash can in the Taylor Berry neighborhood last month.

Tunja Cleaves, also known as Barbara Hayes, was found by a Louisville Solid Waste Management crew discovered the body in the midst of its normal route in the 2700 block of South Seventh Street, the Jefferson County Coroner's Office said Friday.

Her body was found in a "trash receptacle" when crews began to empty it into the back of the garbage truck. George Stokes, 59, was arrested the next day and charged with tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse.

Cleaves' cause of death is pending.
