We've created the ultimate Politically Correct society where one misspoken word can cost you your career regardless of what you contributed for decades prior. People are ready to pounce on you for something you said or did years ago, even if you've changed your views or actions since. It's a world of no forgiveness.
I appreciate that we were trying to create a kinder world by not denigrating or making fun of people, but the unintended consequence of that effort has actually made the world more hostile in many ways.
It's a world where sanctimonious people are eager to condemn someone in order to score political points. These people have said or done stupid things at some point in their own lives, but just haven't been called out for it yet. Who will be there to forgive them when their poor judgement is brought into the light?
I wonder if things we are writing today, things that are considered proper and acceptable, will turn up to haunt us twenty years from now because they won't be acceptable then.
In the past, we have usually been willing to forgive people if we felt their mistake didn't physically harm another person, if they apologized, and if we felt their apology was sincere. We are not those people anymore. We are eager to cast the first stone, even if we have plenty of our own sins.
I'm Bill Lamb, and that's my Point of View.
