College football did not need COVID-19 to ramp up the competition level for those four positions in the playoff, but it’s fair to say people are a bit edgy.

Coaches will argue that every week is a Show Me Week in college football. Usually, they are making it up. This week, they aren’t.

Nick Saban beats impossibly ridiculous expectations. He’s beating the aging process. He will beat Clemson — if he gets the chance.

On one side — the serious contenders for the national title. On the other — coaches who flinch whenever a fresh text message arrives. 

The Wildcats outgained Auburn 384-324, but the offense stalled in the second half, and the Wildcats committed three turnovers.

Apparently, Kentucky needs to do more to stir national respect because the Wildcats were ranked No. 34 in the AP Top 25 preseason poll -- behind Louisville and Virginia Tech, programs Kentucky defeated in its final two games last season.

The race to the top of the WDRB Against the Spread competition has gone to the dogs.

Louisville lost a game the Cardinals were favored to win last Saturday. Ditto for Western Kentucky.
