Tennessee

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — One major question will be answered when the Associated Press releases its latest college basketball poll at noon on Monday:

Which team will get the four first-place votes that went to Virginia last week:

Tennessee, which had 48 No. 1 votes last week, or Duke, which had a dozen?

The smart money, of course, is on Duke, which just beat Virginia for the second time. But maybe the Vols get one of the four.

They continue to get mine.

1. Tennessee (22-1) — Vols are trying to hold their spot atop the SEC — and the South Regional.

2. Duke (21-2) — Considered voting the Blue Devils on top. Maybe after an in-person look Tuesday night.

3. Virginia (20-2) — We know the Cavaliers can’t beat Duke.

4. Kentucky (20-3) — This group fits together well.

5. Gonzaga (23-2) — The Zags have all the necessary parts.

6. Michigan (22-2) — Still waiting for the Wolverines to play Michigan State.

7. Nevada (23-1) — Got payback against New Mexico.

8. North Carolina (19-4) — Everybody talks about Duke and Virginia. Nobody talks about Carolina.

9. Houston (23-1) — Cougars are ready to take on the Rockets.

10. Marquette (20-4) — Still a game behind Villanova in the Big East.

11. Purdue (17-6) — Matt Painter for President.

12. Texas Tech (19-5) — Nice bounce back week for the Red Raiders.

13. Michigan State (19-5) — Spartan still have to go to Wisconsin and Michigan.

14. Villanova (19-5) — Dangerous game at St. John’s on Sunday.

15. LSU (19-4) — Keep an eye on Tremont Waters at Rupp Arena Tuesday.

16. Florida State (18-5) — Five straight wins for the Seminoles.

17. Kansas (18-6) — This is the year.

18. Louisville (17-7) — Gave one to Florida State.

19. Cincinnati (20-4) — Get their rematch with Houston on the last Sunday of the regular season.

20. Kansas State (18-5) — The Wildcats have a two-game lead (in the loss column) in the Big 12 standings.

21. Iowa (19-5) — Had moved the Hawkeyes down to 25th — until the Miracle Against Northwestern.

22. Iowa State (18-6) — Ugly home loss to TCU.

23. Wisconsin (17-7) — Couldn’t beat Michigan, can the Badgers beat Michigan State?

24. Virginia Tech (18-5) — Hokies not only have lost two straight, they’re 4-4 in their last eight.

25. Buffalo (20-3) — Road games with Akron and Toledo this week. Beware.
