LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDRB) — Davis Steel beat La Familia, 67-59, on Sunday to capture the franchise's first-ever TBT Championship and the $2 million prize.
Davis Steel's Terry Taylor led all scorers with 24 points and seven rebounds. Archie Goodwin led La Familia in scoring, with 19 points and five rebounds. Willie Cauley-Stein added a 10-point, 13-rebound double-double.
Davis Steel raced out to a 12-2 lead and held La Familia scoreless for nearly three minutes in the first quarter.
The UK alumni clawed back in the second quarter to trim the deficit to six at halftime.
But in the third quarter, Davis Steel went on a 14-3 run to take a double-digit advantage into the fourth quarter.
The Wildcats were able to pull within seven in the Elam Ending, however, Terrell Brown scored the championship-clinching bucket on a drive to the rim to secure the victory.
"We said it was going to take every single one of us," Davis Steel and former Bellarmine guard Pedro Bradshaw said. "It could be anybody's night, any night. Everyone was just trying to put their own strengths into the same bowl to make sure that we got the job done, and we did."
