LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Then there were nine unbeatens in college basketball.

That explains why Gonzaga (loser to Tennessee) will vacate the top spot Monday — and why it is so much fun jamming 15 deserving teams into the final seven or eight spots on my AP Top 25 college basketball ballot.

But I’m ready for the challenge — and Twitter abuse.

1. Kansas (8-0) — Three Top 50 wins and the Jayhawks have not played anybody rated lower than 135 by Ken Pomeroy.

2. Duke (9-1) — They’re fantastic.

3. Michigan (10-0) — Always good on offense. Even better on defense.

4. Virginia (9-0) — Cavs just lost freshman guard Kihei Clark with a wrist injury.

5. Tennessee (7-1) — I believe we can all agree that the Vols are the team to beat in the SEC.

6. Gonzaga (9-1) — So much for the perfect season.

7. Nevada (10-0) — Pomeroy has this group favored for the rest of their regular season games.

8. Auburn (8-1) — Only Duke has handled Bruce Pearl’s team.

9. Michigan State (8-2) — The more the Spartans win, the more it lifts Louisville’s power rating.

10. North Carolina (7-2) — A complaint free week from Roy Williams.

11. Texas Tech (8-0) — Red Raiders have won every game by double figures.

12. Virginia Tech (8-1) — Hokies' last three opponents have Pomeroy rankings of 260, 321 and 341.

13. Florida State (8-1) — A loss to Villanova from perfection.

14. Ohio State (8-1) — Won their first two Big Ten games by an average of 15 points.

15. Buffalo (9-0) — Still eight days until they visit Syracuse.

16. Wisconsin (8-2) — Not the first team to lose to Marquette in overtime.

17. Villanova (8-2) — Let’s see what happens when the Wildcats visit Kansas Saturday.

18. Nebraska (8-2) — Not the first team to collapse in Williams Arena.

19. Kentucky (7-2) — Some voters have bounced the Wildcats from their ballot. Too soon.

20. Oklahoma (8-1) — You know I’m a Lon Kruger fan.

21. Indiana (8-2) — Hoosiers have played four one-possession games and won three of them.

22. Arizona State (7-1) — A six-point loss to Nevada isn’t awful.

23. Mississippi State (8-1 — Going to Starkville won’t be fun this season.

24. Houston (8-0) — Did you get the text that Kelvin Sampson has another solid team?

25. Furman (10-0) — I keep waiting for the Paladins to lose.

Newcomers: Oklahoma, Indiana, Mississippi State, Houston.

Dropped out: Kansas State; Iowa; Iowa State; Maryland.
