LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Monday marked the opening of the high school basketball season in Kentucky.

Sacred Heart, the 5-time defending state champions hosted Breckinridge County. All-American Zakiyah Johnson has moved on to LSU, but there is still talent returning for the Valkyries, like senior Bri Wilkins.

The Marshall signee hit from outside and in, finishing with 22 points and added four rebounds and three assists.

Junior Tootie Jordan is back at point guard for a third straight year. She had 20 points, plus six assists and four steals.

Breckinridge County played them tough. Rowan Radaszewski led the Lady Tigers with 13 and they were within four at halftime.

The Valkyries pulled away late to win the opener, 65-42.

Sacred Heart had a 91-game in-state win streak snapped last February, then won their last 13 on the way to title number five-in-a-row. And they are again likely to be one of the teams to beat this year.
