Clarksville, IN (WDRB) An Austin, Indiana man was on national TV after he sold an ancient coin on the reality show "Pawn Stars."
Ryan Payne says he paid a couple hundred dollars for a shekel coin and others which date back a couple thousand years ago in Jerusalem. Some say it was a widely used coin with historical value in the days of Jesus and Judas.
Payne says he bought the shekel with some other coins at an estate auction in Scottsburg, Indiana.
He sold the coin to "Pawn Stars" for $1600. He says the money was used to buy diapers and other items since he and his wife recently had a new baby.
Payne tells WDRB News, "It was 2000 years old. I'm sure it was stolen at some point in time after 2000 years yeah."
Shekels are widely available for sale on the internet and at local stores in the area. Some are selling shekels for $1200.
