PAOLI, Ind. (WDRB) -- One suspect is already in custody, but the manhunt continues for two other suspected killers after a triple shooting in Orange County Monday. Indiana State Police say they think they know where they're hiding.

The triple shooting that left two men dead and another critically injured happened June 23, about near Paoli, but Indiana State Police believe the two suspects are hiding out in Marengo, and now the small town is center stage in a large scale search for the two suspected killers.

"It's very stressful because we are just like a very small nit town and we kind of watch out for one another," said Marengo resident Jeffrey Blevins. "And then when you hear of a murder in a nearby town, it's very uneasy."

Blevins owns a barbershop in Marengo and says the triple shooting is the talk of the town. Blevins says he also knows a relative of one of the victims.

"We went to school together, not for sure what year, but we went to school together," Blevins said.

Indiana State Police are looking for John Carpenter and James Davidson in connection with the murders of Nicholas Fields and Corey Harris. A third man, 29-year-old Daniel Smitson was shot in the mouth and is recovering from his injuries.

"We believe both Carpenter and Davidson are in the area, they're somewhere here in Indiana," said Sgt Philip Hensley

On Wednesday, police arrested Elbert Brooks in connection with the murders. They say he was holed up at the Village Apartments of Marengo with a woman -- Chasity Johnson.

"He kept saying he needed to leave and I needed to get him out today," Johnson said after Elbert's arrest. "And he took all of his stuff out of my trunk and I told them they could search my trunk."

Inside the trunk, police say they found some of Brooks' belongings, including a yellow shirt that may be used as evidence.

"We're using it to look for clues in case there may have been blood splatter, may have been some link to the scene," Hensley said.

Meanwhile, Indiana State Police aren't the only ones looking for the suspects.

Charles Carpenter -- John Carpenter's brother -- wants made a plea on the air for his brother to surrender.

"John, don't be stupid; get ahold to me," Charles Carpenter said. "Come see me; I can take care of you and get you in safe."

Anyone with information about Carpenter or Davidson should call Indiana State Police at 812-482-1441.

All three suspects have lengthy criminal histories.
