LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Casey County Man Police police said was 'armed and dangerous' took his own life after a police pursuit Thursday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police had been seeking Matthew Dale Grider, 34, who allegedly exchanged fire with the KSP Drug Enforcement Unit when a trooper attempted to execute a search warrant on him about 4:30 Central Time Wednesday afternoon. 

The officer was not injured.

Police say they received a tip Thursday afternoon that Grider had been seen in the area of Curtis Road in rural Boyle County. According to a news release, the Boyle County Sheriff's Department, with one K9, and Kentucky State Police representatives, began tracking Grider in that area. The search led them to a barn in a field where Grider was spotted as he left on foot out the rear of the barn.

After what is described as a "lengthy pursuit," Grider pulled a gun and fatally shot himself, according to police. 

Police say no shots were fired by law enforcement. 

The case is being handled as a death investigation by Kentucky State Police.
