LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Think of it as a new way to go green.

The state of Oregon is now turning human waste into beer.

It began as a contest by Clean Water Services. The president of a home brewer's club tried making beer made from 30 percent recycled sewage. Now, the company has a new water purification system, which they say is perfect for making beer.

Home brewers will try making beer from 100 percent recycled water, but the state has to test it before anyone can drink it.

"Tastes like beer. Tastes exactly like beer. When it was finished. The water itself tastes just like distilled water," said Lee Hedgmon, president of the Oregon Brew Crew.

The Oregon Health Authority says the waste water poses a low health risk, and it's safe to drink.
