Family of Crystal Rogers demonstrates in front of Justice Center in Bardstown

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Nearly six months after a Bardstown woman disappeared, her family is trying to bring more attention to the case, even as a new development in the investigation may give them answers.

Holding up signs that read "Justice for Crystal" and "Solve these murders," dozens of people came together at the Justice Center in Bardstown Thursday.

Crystal Rogers' parents say they're happy people turned out to support them. They tell us they want to bring more attention to their daughter's disappearance and other unsolved cases in Nelson County.

"There (are) other families out there too that don't know what happened to their loved ones," said Sherry Ballard, Rogers' mom.

Kathy Netherland and her 16-year-old daughter Samantha were brutally murdered inside their Nelson County home last year.

Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis was gunned down in 2013.

There have been no arrests and no answers about what happened.

Officer Ellis' mother-in-law Kris Phillips attended the protest and says she felt it was against law enforcement.

"Jason Ellis was a top officer. Not a speck of dirt on his record and that's what upsets me here today, is it's making him look bad," Phillips said.

"This has nothing to do with the Sheriff's Department or the police," Ballard explained. "We appreciate anything they do for us. We're just looking for any kind of help we can get."

The Nelson County Sheriff's Office has named Rogers' longtime boyfriend, Brooks Houck, as a suspect. He is not facing any charges, but his brother, Nick, was fired from the Bardstown Police Department in October.

Nick Houck was accused of interfering in the Rogers' investigation.

Wednesday night, the sheriff's office announced that one of Brooks Houck's employees, Danny Singleton, has been indicted on 38 counts of perjury in connection to the Rogers case.

"Any little thing that happens makes us feel like that's a step closer and maybe we may find answers," said Sherri Ballard, Crystal Rogers' mother. "I'm hoping that Danny Singleton does know something and maybe he'll talk. We're just praying that that happens."

Court documents say Singleton lied while giving testimony in September before a grand jury.

The sheriff's office has not released any other information.

Singleton is expected to appear before a judge next month.
