Louisville & Indiana Railroad Company reopens formerly abandoned Dutch Lane Yard

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new railroad yard means more jobs and tax revenue coming to Jeffersonville, Indiana.

That's according to Mayor Mike Moore.

The Louisville & Indiana Railroad Company officially opened the Dutch Lane Yard this morning. It was used back in the 30s and 40s, but was abandoned.

It took eight months to clear debris and rebuild the yard, which will allow Lubrizol Advanced Materials to move part of its operation to the area.

Officials say it's only the beginning.

"The way that we've designed this yard will allow for five additional tracks to be built -- and that will increase the capacity of this yard to about 120 car loads," said John Goldman, president of Louisville & Indiana Railroad Company.

The railroad is also upgrading tracks running between Jeffersonville and Seymour.
