Two-faced Kentucky calf makes people do a double-take

TAYLOR COUNTY, Ky. (WDRB) -- As Stan McCubbin walked his property Friday on Spurlington Road near Campbellsville, he noticed something out of the ordinary.

"From a distance, I thought I had twins lying together," said Stan McCubbin. "I saw two noses. I thought it was twins and then when I saw her, I was just completely blown away."

"He was just like, 'I've got a two-headed calf, so I was in shock," said McCubbin's wife, Brandy.

Lucky -- as she's known -- really earned her name.

"She has two heads, but I'm okay with that," said the couple's five-year-old daughter Kenley.

"I said she was lucky to live, and our little five-year-old, Kenley, said 'That's her name -- Lucky'," said Brandy McCubbin. "She is lucky and we're blessed to have this happen on our farm."

While the family says the heifer calf is lucky to be alive, Lucky does have her share of problems.

The middle two of Lucky's four eyes do not blink or function. She can stand up but she walks in circles and then falls over.

The good news is that the calf is eating, but it takes a little extra help to get her fed.

Another interesting note -- when one of her mouth moves, so does the other.

Most with this incredibly rare genetic mutation are stillborn, but the McCubbins say Lucky seems to be healthy for now.

"I'm just thinking, 'How many days do we have?' and I mean, it's a blessing that we get to go through this with our children and our family and it's just something unique and rare," said Brandy McCubbin.

"It's something I've never seen before and I think it's amazing. I think it's something these kids will get to remember forever," said Stan McCubbin.

Since Lucky's birth, the McCubbins say they've had several visits from people who have heard about the calf with two faces and just want to see her up-close.
