LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The favorite to win the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby made his first appearance at Churchill Downs on Tuesday afternoon.
"Fierceness" galloped around the track Tuesday morning in his first appearance at Churchill. The champion 2-year-old colt is in the running to win his biggest trophy as a 3-year-old.
His trainer, Todd Pletcher, is a two-time Derby winner. Pletcher said he likes his horse's chances, regardless of his post position.
"He's got good tactical speed," Pletcher said. "A clean start is important, and then I think if he can get into that rhythm that he showed in the Florida Derby and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, that's what we're hoping to accomplish."
Fierceness won the Florida Derby by 13.5 lengths.
Pletcher's last Kentucky Derby win was in 2017 with Always Dreaming.
