LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A simple acorn is giving women in crisis hope and has planted the seed for a much bigger project.
The Acorn Ladies meet every week at Christ Church United Methodist, where they create necklaces to give to hundreds of women at The Healing Place coping with addiction.
The necklaces are made of acorns, serving as a symbol of hope.
The Acorn Ladies also started a GED program there, providing a classroom, computers and tutors. So far, 51 women in recovery have taken part.
The Healing Place just awarded The Acorn Ladies the Volunteer of the Year award for their efforts.
The necklaces are also sold to raise money for the GED program - contact Christ Church for more information.
