LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Henry Trimble County Animal Shelter is helping take care of 11 puppies left in a box in the middle of the road.

The shelter posted pictures of the pups Dec. 1 on its Facebook page

The post says the puppies were crammed into a box — which was taped shut — and left in the middle of the road at 3175 Hoskins Lane, near the Sulphur Dam bridge.

Some of the pups are in poor shape. They're all currently being cared for by a foster home, and the shelter is asking for donations. Items needed are canned puppy food, dry puppy food, large puppy pads, dog milk replacement and goat milk.

Once they have been medically cleared by a vet, the shelter will post individual pictures and make the pups available for adoption.

Meanwhile, the search is on for the person or persons responsible for abandoning the puppies. Anyone with information on the person responsible for abandoning the animals is asked to call the Henry-Trimble Animal Control office at 502-216-5951.
