LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Students at Highland Middle School spent most of the day on campus at Bellarmine University after a gas odor led to crews finding a carbon monoxide leak in a boiler.
Jefferson County Public Schools spokesperson Carolyn Callahan said the odor was detected around 10 a.m. at the school.
"The principal immediately followed safety procedures and evacuated students and staff to Bellarmine University," Callahan said in a written statement. "All students and staff are safe. Louisville Fire and LG&E are on-site at Highland."
LG&E crews arrived on scene and found a carbon monoxide leak coming from one of the school's boilers. It was then turned off, and all subsequent readings came back clear.
JCPS said lunches were delivered to Bellarmine for the students. Everyone will return to school Wednesday, as normal.
