LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - In only 24 hours, high school and college students went from having an idea on paper to making that project a reality.

The first ever Hack Kentucky Hack-a-thon hosted this weekend at U of L pushed the limits of what can be made in only one day.

Developers, designers and entrepreneurs worked in teams to brainstorm and hack-out a project.

Some of the projects included a small rocket launcher and a remote-control roomba.

Despite the lack of sleep and caffeine overload, the student engineers say it's great hands-on experience.

"(It will) test both how you can manage a project, your skill with electronics, your ability to learn on the go and just stress management," student engineer Kasey Shirley said. "Because, you know, it's obviously stressful trying to do something like this in a straight 24-hour period."

This mini hack-a-thon was a test run for a larger one in February.

Teams from six different universities will compete to create the next best project.
