LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Youth in Louisville let their lights shine to spread awareness.
Lightfest was held on the first Saturday in November to kick off Hunger Homeless Awareness Month. The purpose of the event is to educate youth on the importance of civic engagement, bring awareness to poverty and show the importance of mental health.
"Lightfest is about shining the light and bringing hope to folks," said Nina Moseley with Wayside Christian Mission.
The idea for Lightfest came from the 1996 Olympic Torch Relay and was held for the first time in 1997. It was first held at Churchill Downs.
Last year marked the 25th anniversary of Lightfest.
