MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Stanford interim coach Frank Reich knows how to stage a comeback against Miami. He famously led Maryland to a 42-40 win after trailing 31-0 at halftime in 1984. Stanford faces Miami on Saturday, marking the schools' first meeting. Miami quarterback Carson Beck threw four interceptions in a recent loss to Louisville, putting the Hurricanes in a tough spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference race. Stanford, meanwhile, seeks its first two-game winning streak since September 2024. Miami coach Mario Cristobal praised Stanford's progress under Reich. Miami freshman Malachi Toney is on pace for a 1,000-yard receiving season.
UNDATED (AP) — SMU's visit to Wake Forest and No. 7 Georgia Tech's home game against Syracuse headline this week's slate in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Mustangs are 3-0 in the league after going 8-0 in regular-season games last year. They're facing a Demon Deacons team that has been better than expected under first-year coach Jake Dickert. The Yellow Jackets are 7-0 for the first time since 1966 entering the visit from the Orange. The slate includes No. 9 Miami trying to regroup from its first loss by hosting Stanford. No. 19 Louisville hosts Boston College after pulling that Miami upset.
ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Tech football is back at home to start the second half of Atlantic Coast Conference play. The newly minted seventh-ranked Yellow Jackets relied on a strong rushing performance from quarterback Haynes King and tight red-zone defense in last week's win at Duke. Georgia Tech will host a Syracuse team trying to snap a three-game losing streak. The Orange are looking for reliable quarterback play in Steve Angeli's absence. They played two different signal-callers in last week's home loss to Pitt.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The transfer portal and NIL money have helped level the playing field across college football. The result is the type of parity that makes the NFL must-see TV with the competition tighter than ever, especially in the Power Four conferences. In the Southeastern Conference, the average margin of victory is just 10.0 points per game. That is on pace to be the lowest for any power conference since at least 2000. Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea says he feels like he's coaching in the NFL now.
UNDATED (AP) — No. 1 UConn’s season opener against No. 20 Louisville that was supposed to be played at Ramstein Air Base in Germany on Nov. 4 has been moved to the Naval Academy because of the government shutdown. Indiana’s 18-2 record since last season is tied for third-best in the country. Vanderbilt’s 13-7 mark is tied for 34th.
UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA has approved a rule change that will allow athletes and athletic department staff members to bet on professional sports. Two weeks after the Division I cabinet approved the change, Division II and III management councils signed off on it on Wednesday, allowing the new rule to go into effect Nov. 1. This doesn’t change the NCAA rule which forbids athletes from betting on college sports. The NCAA also prohibits sharing information about college competitions with bettors. The institution also doesn’t accept advertising or sponsorships of NCAA championships by betting sites.
UNDATED (AP) — College football could be on the verge of one of the busiest coaching carousels in recent history. Arkansas' Sam Pittman, Florida's Billy Napier, Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy, Penn State's James Franklin, UCLA's DeShaun Foster and Virginia Tech's Brent Pry were shown the door in September and October. Stanford also is looking for a replacement for interim coach Frank Reich.
