TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt is expected to miss the Sun Devils' game against Utah with an undisclosed injury. No. 21 Arizona State has won three straight games while Utah had a lopsided win over West Virginia last weekend. Leavitt has completed 63.1% of his passes this season for 1,039 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions. The sophomore has also run for 281 yards and five touchdowns. Jeff Sims is expected to get the start against Utah. The sixth-year player completed 12 of 23 passes for 155 yards in a start against Cincinnati last season.

UNDATED (AP) — One of the most vocal and potentially powerful boosters in college sports has lashed out at conference commissioners for stymieing changes he thinks could save the industry. One of those commissioners, Greg Sankey of the Southeastern Conference, responded by saying the booster’s views “reflect a fundamental misunderstanding of the realities of college athletics.” The spat sprang from Texas Tech billionaire head of regents Cody Campbell's argument about how the proposed pooling of college TV rights could feed additional billions into school coffers. Campbell said progress is being held back because “the conferences are all represented by commissioners who are very, very self-interested.”

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Shedeur Sanders will back up Dillon Gabriel on Sunday in Pittsburgh, meaning the Browns will face the rival Steelers with two rookie quarterbacks. Sanders has been inactive for Cleveland’s first five games as the Browns develop him. But they think he’s ready to be their No. 2 despite not appearing in a regular-season game. Sanders’ promotion came in the aftermath of the Browns trading Joe Flacco this week. Coach Kevin Stefanski announced his decision following Friday’s practice, adding that he has confidence Sanders is ready for the promotion.
