LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jayden Maiava threw three touchdown passes and rushed for two more scores, and Makai Lemon caught a scoring pass and ran for another TD in No. 25 Southern California’s 45-31 victory over Michigan State. Maiava passed for 236 yards and Waymond Jordan rushed for 157 yards in a fourth straight comfortable victory for USC. Long Beach native Aidan Chiles threw three touchdown passes and rushed for another score for the Spartans. Michigan State linebacker Wayne Matthews left the field on a cart 42 seconds before halftime after getting hurt while making a tackle on Jordan.

UNDATED (AP) — Six AP Top 25 college football teams had an early bye week. Nineteen ranked teams and hopefuls played on Saturday, featuring three ranked matchups. No. 17 Texas Tech won against No. 16 Utah, 34-10, making a case to move up in the poll. No. 11 Oklahoma defeated No. 22 Auburn, 24-17, with a late touchdown and safety. No. 24 Notre Dame earned its first win of the season, beating Purdue 56-30. Indiana is expected to rise after a 63-10 win against Illinois, while Utah and Illinois may drop in the rankings.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Dante Moore threw for 305 yards and a career-high four touchdowns, and No. 6 Oregon rolled to a 41-7 victory over former Pac-12 foe Oregon State before the rivalry goes on a break next season. Moore was 21-of-31 passing and spread his scoring strikes to four different receivers. The Ducks had 585 yards in total offense. Anthony Hankerson ran for 38 yards on 14 carries and the lone touchdown for the 0-4 Beavers. Oregon visits No. 2 Penn State next weekend.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Jacory Barney Jr. came down with a tying 52-yard Hail Mary pass from Dylan Raiola to end the first half against No. 21 Michigan. The Cornhuskers had gotten the ball with 1:51 left after Justice Haynes’ 75-yard run had put the Wolverines up 17-10. Nebraska called timeout with one second left after Emmett Johnson’s short run to the 48. Raiola moved to his right and launched a high-arcing ball downfield. Barney outjumped Michigan’s Jaden Mangham for the ball at the goal line, turned and fell into the end zone.

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — Demond Williams Jr. threw four touchdown passes and ran for a score as Washington reclaimed the Apple Cup with a 59-24 victory over Washington State. Williams was at the heart of Washington’s offensive success with 298 yards through the air and another 88 on the ground, but the Huskies made use of other weapons on their way to 471 total yards. Running back Jonah Coleman rushed for 59 yards and two touchdowns to help a dominant rushing attack. Denzel Boston led all receivers with 107 yards and two touchdowns. The Huskies scored on every possession, extending their season-opening scoring streak to 21 straight drives. Washington scored touchdowns on seven of its eight scoring drives.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Malik Washington threw two touchdown passes to Shaleak Knotts and also ran for a score in his Big Ten debut as Maryland remained unbeaten by trouncing Wisconsin 27-10. Maryland has outscored its first four opponents 130-36 and already has matched its win total from last season. Maryland also recorded six sacks and blocked a field-goal attempt and a punt as Wisconsin dropped to 15-15 in Luke Fickell’s coaching tenure. The Badgers trailed 20-0 at halftime as the Camp Randall Stadium crowd chanted “Fire Fickell.”

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Iowa quarterback Mark Gronowski ran for three touchdowns and passed for 186 yards to lead the Hawkeyes to a 38-28 win over Rutgers in the Big Ten season-opener for both teams on Friday night. Gronowski scored two fourth quarter TDs for Iowa (3-1), erasing a 28-24 Rutgers lead. Athan Kaliakmanis passed for 330 yards and ran for two TDs for the Scarlet Knights (3-1). Iowa is 5-0 against Rutgers.
