Brenner Souza scored in each half and Evander Da Silva Ferreira notched three assists to lead FC Cincinnati to a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy. Cincinnati (18-9-4) closed within two points of the first-place Philadelphia Union in the Eastern Conference with three matches remaining in the regular season. Evander set up Ender Echenique in the 12th minute and the 21-year-old forward scored for the first time in his sixth appearance and fourth start. Evander collected another assist and Kévin Denkey notched his second of the season on Brenner’s goal for a 2-0 lead in the 22nd minute. Brenner scored his third goal this season — on Evander’s 13th assist — for a 3-1 lead in the 88th minute.
Richie Laryea scored in the 51st minute and Toronto FC played the Columbus Crew to a 1-1 draw. Toronto (5-13-12) has six consecutive draws in MLS play dating to Aug. 9, with two against the Crew. Toronto was looking for its first road victory over the Crew since May 2017. Columbus (13-7-11) is tied with Nashville for seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings with 50 points. Toronto’s first shot of the game ended in Laryea’s sliding finish to tie it at 1-all. Wessam Abou Ali opened the scoring in the 16th. He ran past the defense for Max Arfsten’s through ball and sent it through the legs of goalkeeper Luka Gavran with the outside of his right foot.
Julián Fernández scores in stoppage time as New York City tops the Crew 3-2 for 6th win in 8 matches
Hannes Wolf scored twice, Julián Fernández had the game-winning goal in stoppage time and New York City FC beat the Columbus Crew 3-2 on Wednesday night for its sixth win in eight matches. New York City (15-9-5) beat Columbus (13-7-10) for the first time since May 2022. New York City is tied with Nashville for fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings with 50 points. Agustín Ojeda started the late sequence by dribbling it from New York City’s side of the field and leaving it for Fernández at the corner of the 18-yard box for a bending shot into the far corner of the net. It was New York City’s 10th win at home this season.
Diego Rossi had a hat trick by halftime and the Columbus Crew eliminated Atlanta United from postseason play with a 5-4 victory. Rossi staked the Crew (13-6-10) to a 2-0 lead with goals in the 14th and 17th minutes. He finished off his hat trick in the 39th minute for a 5-0 lead. It was the third career hat trick for Rossi, who matched his career high with 16 goals this season. Jamal Thiaré scored twice in the second half for Atlanta United (5-13-11).
Evander Da Silva Ferreira — known simply as “Evander” — scored in the eighth minute of stoppage time to help FC Cincinnati beat Nashville SC 2-1 and clinch a spot in the 2025 MLS Cup playoffs. Ender Echenique tapped it to Evander for a first-touch finish from the center of the area. Cincinnati (17-9-4), which had lost back-to-back games for the first time this season, is second in the Eastern Conference with 55 points this season. On the counter-attack, Brenner Souza — commonly referred to as “Brenner” — ran onto a ball played ahead by Evander and scored from the center of the area to give Cincinnati a 1-0 lead. Sam Surridge scored for Nashville in the 83rd minute.
Bruno Damiani scored a goal in the 49th minute and Andrew Rick had five saves to help the Philadelphia Union beat FC Cincinnati 1-0 in a battle of the top-two teams in the Eastern Conference and clinch a spot in the 2025 MLS Cup playoffs. Philadelphia (17-6-6) leads all of MLS with 57 points. Cincinnati (16-9-4) is second in the Eastern Conference with 53. Olwethu Makhanya was shown his second yellow card in the 60th minute and the Union played a man down the rest of the way. Tbe Union’s plus-23 goal differential this season is the best in MLS.
Patrick Schulte had four saves Columbus and Carlos Coronel saved the only shot he faced as the New York Red Bulls and Crew played to a scoreless draw. Schulte earned his third clean sheet of the season for Columbus (12-6-10) with three saves coming in the first half. Coronel notched his ninth shutout of the season for the Red Bulls (11-11-7) with his lone save coming after halftime.
Folarin Balogun has been added to the U.S. roster for friendlies next month against South Korea and Japan. He replaced Vancouver’s Brian White, who strained a hamstring during Saturday’s Major League Soccer game against St. Louis. Balogun, a 24-year-old forward, made his season debut on Sunday in Monaco's 1-0 loss to Lille in Ligue 1 after recovering from an ankle injury. He has scored five goals in 17 international appearances, last playing for the U.S. in last year's Copa America. He joins a roster that includes Christian Pulisic and Tyler Adams.
Alonso Martínez scored a goal in the 55th minute, Matt Freese had his seventh shut out of the season, and New York City FC beat FC Cincinnati 1-0. Freese finished with five saves. Martínez, on the counter-attack, ran onto a ball played ahead by Maxi Moralez, outraced a trio of defenders and flicked a shot past goalkeeper Roman Celentano — who charged off his line — into a wide-open net to give New York City a 1-0 lead. New York City (13-8-5) is unbeaten, with four wins, in its last five games.
Leo Campana and Ignatius Ganago scored first-half goals and the New England Revolution held on for a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Crew. New England (8-12-7) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when Campana used assists from Luca Langoni and Carles Gil to score his sixth goal of the season. Langoni’s assist was his second and Gil collected his 10th. The Revolution took a two-goal lead in the 39th minute when Ganago scored for a second time in his 18th career appearance. Rookie defender Mamadou Fofana notched his first assist in his 25th appearance and start. Columbus (12-6-9) cut it to 2-1 in the 71st minute on Dániel Gazdag’s second goal this season
