The wrongful death lawsuit, filed in Jefferson Circuit Court in September 2020, claimed the 53-year-old barbecue chef committed no crime before he was killed on June 1, 2020.

While attorneys for McAtee’s family say Katie Crews initiated the sequence of events leading to David McAtee’s death, federal prosecutors asked for a sentence of no incarnation arguing, in part, Crews was fairly new on the force and “clearly could not have foreseen the tragic outcome of her actions in this case.”
