These two cases of rabies are the first confirmed in the state of Indiana in 20 years.

For the first time in 20 years, a rabid skunk was found in Indiana, and state health officials said the case was detected in Clark County.

The Clark County Health Department is urging residents to vaccinate their pets and keep their distance from wildlife as it runs tests to determine the source of the infection in the now-deceased skunk.

The three bats were among 18 tested during routine surveillance by the Kentucky Department of Public Health.
