LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Wide receiver Caullin Lacy, one of the top transfer portal additions to Jeff Brohm’s team in the offseason and key component of the team’s re-worked offense, will miss an extended period to start the season after suffering a broken collarbone during an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday.
Lacy ranked fifth in the nation in receiving last season at South Alabama, with 91 catches for 1,316 yards last season, and was a Top 100 transfer according to most services.
Louisville coach Jeff Brohm said of Lacy at ACC Media Days, “Caullin brings a ton of experience to the table. He’s played a lot of football, as well. But he’s strong, he’s fast, he’s tough. He’s made great strides even the little bit we’ve had him. He works really hard. Without question, putting the ball in his hands, making sure he has touches is important for our success.”
Louisville wide receivers coach Garrick McGee said after spring workouts that Lacy had some adjusting to do to Louisville’s pace and offense, but was on a good trajectory.
Louisville wide receiver Caullin Lacy catches a passing during preseason practice on August 3, 2024.
“He’s really gotten better,” McGee said. “He can run with the ball, but in regards to his route running and playing at our pace and speed that we want to play with he’s really developed.”
Now, transfer quarterback Tyler Shough and his staff will look to turn to others in the wideout room, like Alabama transfer Ja’Corey Brooks.
The Cardinals open their season at home at noon on Aug. 31 against Austin Peay.
