LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The University of Louisville men's basketball team attained its highest Associated Press Top 25 ranking since January 2021 in the latest poll released Monday, coming in at No. 19 after beating Florida State, 89-81, on Saturday.
The win was Louisville's fifth straight, which gives the Cardinals the second-longest winning streak among Power 5 schools, behind Houston and Florida, who each have won six in a row.
Louisville was ranked No. 16 in the poll released on Jan. 11, 2021, the last time the program has appeared in the AP top 20. Louisville and Michigan State were the biggest upward movers in the poll, each improving six spots.
With its win Saturday, Louisville improved to 21-6, making Pat Kelsey just the second coach in Louisville history to win 21 games in his first season. Denny Crum was the other.
Kentucky held at No. 17 after beating Vanderbilt at home but losing to Alabama on the road. Auburn remained No. 1 and Duke No. 2. Kansas dropped out of the rankings.
