Thorpedo Anna

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Thorpedo Anna, the reigning Horse of the Year and 2024 Kentucky Oaks winner, has been officially retired from racing and will begin her broodmare career at Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms at Xalapa in Lexington, trainer Kenny McPeek announced Wednesday.

“She’s fine,” McPeek said. “For everybody out there that’s worried about her, you can rest at ease. She’s been examined by several veterinarians. Dr. Bramlage of Rood and Riddle found some very mild bone bruising — nothing uncommon for a horse in training at this level. She could return to training in 90 days, but we’ve opted to retire her.”

Thorpedo Anna retires with more than $5.4 million in earnings and 10 graded stakes victories. She is owned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms, Judy Hicks, Mark Edwards, and Magdalena Racing.

A 20% share in Thorpedo Anna will be offered for sale October 29 at the Keeneland Championship Sale in Del Mar, California.

“It’s an incredible privilege to offer an interest in the reigning Horse of the Year,” said Shannon Arvin, president and CEO of Keeneland. “Her brilliance on the track has captured the imagination of fans everywhere. Buyers now have an extraordinary opportunity to share in her future as a broodmare.”

John G. Sikura, owner of Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms, called Thorpedo Anna “one of the most accomplished fillies in history,” adding, “Everyone at Hill ‘n’ Dale looks forward to being part of her next chapter.”

McPeek expressed gratitude to supporters throughout her storied career. “We’re really proud of her,” he said. “She’s had tremendous support — thank you to all the fans that have cheered her on.”
