LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Hot Brown has been the signature dish of Louisville since 1926.

WDRB's Keith Kaiser joined some chefs getting ready for Louisville Hot Brown Week.

Louisville Tourism has teamed up with more than a dozen local restaurants to produce the 2nd Annual Louisville Hot Brown Week.

From Oct. 23-29, indulge in Louisville’s most famous dish by dining at participating restaurants offering $10-$12 Hot Brown specials.

A Hot Brown is a hot, open-faced sandwich made with Texas toast, thick-sliced turkey, cheesy Mornay sauce, crispy bacon and tomatoes, all baked until bubbling hot.

The Hot Brown may be native to Louisville, but the dish is known around the globe.

The iconic dish was said to be invented at Louisville’s historic Brown Hotel back in the 1920s.

The hotel would regularly host guests for dinner and late-night dancing.

Chef Fred K. Schmidt came up with a new menu item to satisfy after hours appetites, thus, The Hot Brown was born.

The Brown Hotel will celebrate its 100th anniversary of being open during the week of Oct. 25.

Current participating restaurants include Big Bad Breakfast Germantown, Big Bad Breakfast Norton Commons, Gorilla Bob’s, Grub Shack, Parlour Downtown Louisville, Parlour Frankfort Avenue, Parlour Jeffersontown, Parlour Jeffersonville, Parlour New Albany, Rubbies Southside Bar & Grill, Sidebar at Whiskey Row, The Cafe, The Goose Eatery & Hangout and more.
