LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 14-year-old girl died after being trapped in a mobile home fire in Madison, Indiana on Wednesday morning.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, first responders responded to reports of the fire at the mobile home in the 3400 block of W. River Birch Drive, around 7:20 a.m.
Police said an adult and two children escaped the fire with minor injuries. But 14-year-old Dulce Cristal Martinez-Ortiz was unable to be rescued due to the intensity of the fire.Â
Madison Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Robert Black said temperatures got up to about 2,000 degrees inside.
Karina Rodriguez said neighbors came together to try to help, throwing buckets of water on the fire.Â
"Any water we could find, we just threw it in there," Rodriguez said.
A whole neighborhood is left mourning Martinez-Ortiz, as many knew her.
"She was very outgoing. She was so nice," Rodriguez said. "She was such a bright little girl. She had a bright future, and it sucks that it was stolen from her."
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Jefferson County Coroner's Office, Madison Township Fire Department and the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the fire and the cause of death.
