Woman dies after house catches fire in Valley Station early Monday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman died early Monday morning after a house caught fire just off Dixie Highway in Valley Station.

Louisville fire officials said firefighters were called just after 3 a.m. to 5201 Stephan Drive, just south of Pages Lane, to find a house on fire with someone inside.

The firefighters arrived on scene to heavy fire and smoke on both floors of the home. A woman was rescued from inside and transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to Louisville Metro Arson Maj. Kevin Fletcher.

Also, a firefighter was treated at the hospital for first- and second-degree burns to his arm.

It took firefighters 21 minutes to get control of the flames. Louisville Metro Arson is investigating the fire.
