LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A surging crowd of more than 165,000 has broken the attendance record at Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby for the second consecutive year.

The track announced late Saturday afternoon that there were 165,307 at the historic track for the 138th running of the Derby.

That beat last year's attendance of 164,858, also a record-breaker.

Post time for the race is approximately 6:24 p.m. Saturday.
