LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The City of Lexington is preempting couch burning celebrations in the event of an ninth Kentucky basketball national championship this year.

The department of code enforcement has begun posting notices in areas of off-campus housing for UK students, warning against having indoor furniture outside.

The letter “will serve as a 24 Hour Emergency Notice to Abate”, alerting residents over the next few weekends that any indoor furniture on the exterior of the property will be removed.

The city also asks residents to “keep the property free of any trash and debris i.e. drink cans, bags of trash, etc.”

In 2012, Lexington Police said one person was wounded by gunfire as thousands took to the streets to celebrate the NCAA title win over Kansas.

UK basketball continues its 2015 NCAA tournament Thursday night against West Virginia in Cleveland.
