BEVERLY HILLS (CNN) -- It seems to be the season for breakups.

Following the announcement that Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale have filed for divorce, another high-profile couple said that they had parted ways.

In separate announcements on their official Facebook pages on Wednesday (August 5), Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog – the Muppet world's It Couple – declared that they were no longer an item.

However, it's not quite clear who initiated the separation or what exactly was the reason behind it.

Kermit's announcement said that Miss Piggy "made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship," while Miss Piggy said that it was a mutual decision.

They both said, though, that the split was made after "careful thought, thoughtful consideration, and considerable squabbling."

Fans were understandably upset about the split.

One said it was the only celebrity marriage she cared about and that it hurts now that it's over.

Kermit said that it would be the only comment he would make about this "private matter," a sentiment shared by Miss Piggy with the slight matter of "unless we get the right offer."

This latest celebrity breakup also came after, among others, the separation of country superstars Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton.
