LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials have released the names of the two people killed Friday morning in the Portland neighborhood.

The victims are 55-year-old August Dichiara Jr. and 28-year-old Jessica Rae Shadowens, according to Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Jim Wesley. Both victims died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Wesley.

Shadowens and Dichiara were pronounced dead at the scene at 6:24 a.m.

A third person was also wounded in the shooting. That person was taken to University Hospital and is expected to survive, according to LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell.

Mitchell says the shooting happened sometime around 6 a.m. Friday inside a home at 28th and Northwestern Parkway. Wesley says Dichiara was a resident of the home. He also said Shawdowens had been staying at the home, but was not a permanent resident.

Atkinson Elementary on 28th and Duncan is not far from the crime scene. According to JCPS spokeswoman Bonnie Hackbarth, police did not recommend that security levels be heightened at the school. Hackbarth says only one section of road was restricted.

Mitchell calls this another senseless crime.

"We cannot legislate morality, and there's no way that we can make each other love one another," Mitchell said. "This is another senseless homicide, as the majority of them are, of course. Certainly our prayers go out to the families of the victims."

Nearby neighbors say they're tired of all the violence.

"It's ruining everything," said Terry Wright.

Mitchell says he believes investigators "have some fairly good leads, but anyone with information is asked to call the LMPD crime tipline at 574-LMPD,
