LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Just hours after 45-year-old Donald “Wayne” Box was shot and killed, police arrested 29-year-old Joshua Goodman and charged him with murder and tampering with physical evidence.

Wayne Box’s daughter, Kayla Box, says her dad just knew how to make people smile and that his death came as a surprise.

“Very energetic, very friendly, he wanted everybody to know that he was friendly,” Kayla Box said.

But she said her dad also had a softer side.

“He was always there when you needed to talk,” she said.

Police say Wayne Box was shot and killed in his home in Fairdale Friday night.

“My dad's very warm hearted and if you need help, you need a roof, food, anything -- he's there,” Kayla Box said.

She was told Goodman and his father had been staying in the home with her dad. On Friday night, Goodman entered the home and asked Wayne Box if his father was there. When he said no, the two got into an argument and Goodman shot Wayne Box multiple times.

“He couldn't find his dad so he turned around and apparently shot my dad,” she said.

Now Kayla Box is left thinking about her two-year-old son who bears a strong resemblance to his grandpa -- and her unborn child who will never know him.

“He’ll never get to see either one of them grow up,” she said.

But his memory will always be alive in her heart.

“It was little things that he would do that would just to make you your day brighter and make him feel good that you laughed at something he had done,” Kayla Box said.

Family also tells us Wayne Box's girlfriend and a close friend were in the house at the time of the shooting.

Goodman is expected in court on Monday.

LMPD's homicide unit is investigating this case.
